PS3 Warranty dispute...who is wrong?

Okay, apparently I baught the playstation protection plan for 2 years and i noticed that my original receipt is faded BUT the barcode is still here. unfortunately, the receipt doesnt say I baught a ps3. I called sony and asked them and they said that if it doesnt say i got a ps3 my warranty is void and i threw away 50 dollars. NOW I call gamestop and they said that the guy i talked to was full of crap because as long as the barcode is still on the receipt they will be able to accept my claim because barcode is supposed to prevent warranty fraud. Who is wrong here? the clerk at gamestop or the guy at sony?
