What is a Surge Deposit and how does it differ from a river delta?

Pyroclastic surge deposits occur when volcanos errupt and cause a flow of water, gas, and particles. All of the material is deposited in one event (allthough many events may occur over time). River delta are sediment carried and deposited from river waters at a semi constant rate over a long period.
