Do I need to have a company to get a barcode?

I decided to start making soap bars from my house and I'd like to sell them ...on Amazon mostly being the leader of internet selling items,but they require a upc barcode in every product I'm selling ,so I went to the GS1 website to try to get one,but it's quite confusing with all their barcode types and expensive ,plus I don't know if I need to have an established company in order to apply for the bar codes ,so I would like to know how can I deal with this situation,thank you all in advance and please be specific in your answers I'm all new to this.
